Details on "Schools" (Room Level)

Information on the Schools section of the Ventilation module in LINEAR Building.

In this area, you configure the room-specific settings for determining the required air volumes for rooms in non-residential buildings based on the calculation method VDI 6040-7 Schools (09-2015). Values conforming to the guidelines are stored as default values. Additionally, the individual time intervals of the usage profile assigned at project level and the determined carbon dioxide end concentrations of the intervals are displayed.

“Schools” Section on Room Level of the Ventilation Module in LINEAR Building.

General Room Data

The room number, the room name and the room temperature for the heating or cooling mode are displayed on the left-hand side, which you can adjust as required. Depending on the module, you can use the button to the right of the room temperature to open the Temperatures dialog, in which you can select the temperature variables stored in the master tables and create new temperature variables.

The area resulting from the clear internal dimensions and the clear internal dimensions of the room are displayed in brackets in the right-hand area.

: Opens the Room Data dialog in which you can adjust the parameters of the room.

General Data

Room Use: Drop-down list for selecting the type of room use according to VDI 6040. The type of room use influences the person-related carbon dioxide volume flow rate. The following options are available for selection:

  • Classroom: Room in the school where lessons usually take place in light sedentary activity.
  • Common Room: Room that is not only intended or suitable for temporary occupancy by people. The activity of the people in the room is usually light to moderate physical standing or sitting activity. Typical examples of recreation rooms are group rooms, break rooms, dining rooms and staff rooms.
  • Exercise Room: Room in which minor sporting activities are carried out.
Note: Sports halls are not exercise rooms.

Year Group: Drop-down list for selecting the year groups that use the room. The selection of year groups influences the personal carbon dioxide volume flow.

Carbon Dioxide Outside Air Concentration: Specifies the carbon dioxide concentration of the outside air. Adjusted values are displayed in bold.

: One click restores the default value in accordance with the guidelines.

Initial Carbon Dioxide Room Air Concentration: Specifies the carbon dioxide concentration in the room at the start of the observation period.

Carbon Dioxide Volume Flow per Person: Displays the hourly personal volume flow of carbon dioxide. The value depends on the choice of room use and the year groups using the room.

Daily Schedule

This table displays the individual time intervals of the usage profile assigned to the room. Occupancy Type, Number Of People and Duration of the interval are defined in the corresponding usage profiles. Based on the individual specifications for the time intervals, the settings in the General Data section, and an assumed initial volume flow rate, the carbon dioxide concentration in the room at the end of the interval is determined and checked to ensure compliance with the concentration limit. If the limit value is exceeded, the start volume flow rate is increased accordingly until the limit value is no longer exceeded. These determined final carbon dioxide concentrations are the starting concentration for the calculation of the subsequent time interval. The required volume flow rate of the room resulting from the calculations of the intervals is displayed on the Results tab and transferred to the overview at project level and the Air Volumes section.

By clicking you have the possibility to copy the contents of the table with or without column heading and paste it into Excel.

If you have selected individual rows or cells, you can copy the selected data with the key combinations Ctrl+C (with column heading) or Ctrl+Shift+C (without column heading) and paste it into Excel, for example.

Column Description
Occupancy Type Indicates whether it is a time interval with normal occupancy during a lesson or occupancy during a break, when there are usually fewer people in the room than during the lesson.
Number of People Defines the number of people in the room during of the time interval.
Duration Displays the duration of the time interval.
CO2 Final Concentration Shows the carbon dioxide concentration in the room at the end of the time interval. This value is the starting concentration for the calculation of the subsequent time interval.
