About the Occupancy of Rooms with Persons

Explains the concept of occupancy of supply air rooms with persons for determining the supply air volume flow.

In bedrooms, children’s rooms and guest rooms, an outdoor air volume flow of 15 m³/h must be ensured per person. In the LINEAR Building-configuration, you specify whether the supply air volume flow is determined based on the distribution of persons in the standard occupancy or based on the number of persons specified in the ventilation zone.

If you select the setting Standard occupancy in the configuration, LINEAR Building determines the mechanical supply air volume flow based on the distribution of persons among bedrooms, children’s rooms and guest rooms stored in the dialog Standard occupancy.

If you select the Allocate persons setting in the configuration, the number of persons specified in the ventilation zone will be divided among bedrooms, children’s rooms and guest rooms. The number of people is distributed evenly starting from the room with the largest supply air factor. If the number of persons cannot be divided equally, the room with the highest supply air factor will have the greater number of persons. According to this method, if there are 3 persons in the ventilation zone, 2 persons will be assigned to a bedroom (supply air factor 2.0) and 1 person will be assigned to the guest room (supply air factor 1.5). The calculation according to persons only takes effect if the outdoor air volume flow rate calculated according to persons is greater than the volume flow rate calculated according to area.

If the supply air volume flow falls below 15 m3/h per person in LINEAR Building, the program increases the nominal capacity until the target volume flow per person is reached.

If you do not enter a number of persons for a ventilation zone, high occupancy is assumed for the calculation of ventilation for humidty control. High occupancy means that the effective floor 40 m person is less than 40 m2. In the case of high occupancy, the required ventilation for humidity control is 30% of the nominal volume flow for residential buildings in the category “Heat protection high” and 40% of the nominal volume flow for residential buildings in the category “Heat protection low".
