Details on Configuration - Synchronization

Information about the Synchronization section in the Configuration of LINEAR Building.

In the Synchronization section, you can define which parameters are to be synchronized in which direction for building detection and/or updates with a connected CAD. Configurations can be edited for each Parameter individually. Customized configurations of the synchronization settings can be saved.

You are here:

Configuration (Toolbar)Synchronization

Synchronization area in the Configuration of LINEAR Building

Configuration

Drop-down list for selecting the provided and saved synchronization configurations. In addition to the Standard Synchronization Settings, two further standard configurations are supplied, one configuration for importing parameters from the connected CAD program and one configuration in which parameters are exported to the connected CAD program. By selecting Standard Synchronization Settings - Export Only and Standard Synchronization Settings - Import Only, all synchronization settings of the parameters in the Option column are automatically set accordingly. Parameters that are not supported in the corresponding configuration or that are set to No Change (-) in the Default Synchronization Settings are disabled. Custom synchronization settings can be added, imported, and exported.

Click on to open a context menu with the following options:

Add: Opens the Name of New Configuration dialog, in which you can enter a name for the new configuration. The new configuration is saved with the current project.

Delete: Deletes the current configuration and loads the settings of the standard configuration. This button is deactivated if only one configuration is available.

Rename: Opens the New Name of Configuration dialog, in which you can adjust the name of a configuration.

Import: Opens the file explorer to select a saved synchronization configuration file.

Export All Configurations: Opens a File Explorer, where you can save all existing synchronization settings in the desired directory in a file with the file name extension *.prcon.

Export Current Configuration: Opens a File Explorer, where you can save the current configuration in the desired directory in a file with the file name extension *.prcon.

As Default Template: Saves the current configuration as the default template for the current and all future projects.

Prefer the latest method for building detection

Enabled: The current procedure is used to import the building from AutoCAD. The latest method not only imports models from DWG drawings but also incorporates buildings from the IFC workflow, generating a more detailed building structure through more detailed room segmentation. This means that floor structures or layered components, if present, are transferred correctly. If the building model was drawn with topography, this can be detected and taken into account in the determination of components in contact with the ground. Standard-specific instructions for the interpretation of component dimensions from the currently selected standard are taken into account.

Note: The latest method is always used whenever a building is imported from the IFC workflow, regardless of whether this option is selected. The status of this checkbox is saved in the software and is the default for all building detections until the next manual change.
Note: The latest procedure does not yet support the import of buildings from 2.5D drawings. For 2.5D drawings, the classic method is therefore automatically used for building detection, regardless of the checkbox status of this option.

Disabled: The classic procedure is used to detect the building from AutoCAD. This method detects buildings from DWG drawings and does not take topography into account. Standard-specific guidelines for interpreting component dimensions are not applied. The division of a building into building parts using the LINEAR Building Parts function, which is available starting with version 26.1, is not supported. In the traditional method, building parts are defined exclusively by adjacent storey outlines. The traditional method generates fewer room segments and therefore requires less computing time than the current method.

Thermal Component Properties

Drop-down list with options for handling thermal component properties of layered structures:

Update all: All layered components in the project are synchronized with their thermally relevant information from the linked CAD. Components whose layer structures have been adjusted manually in LINEAR Building are overwritten with the information from the CAD during this process.

Adopt only new layer structures: During synchronization, only those layer structures are transferred that do not already exist in the LINEAR Building project.

Do not update: During synchronization, no thermally relevant information is transferred from the connected CAD for layer structures. U-values and layer structures must be updated manually in LINEAR Building.

Transfer loads and profiles from room types (only Revit, Dynamic Cooling Load)

Enabled: If you have assigned profiles and room types to the rooms in the model, these are adopted during the building survey and taken into account when determining the dynamic cooling load in LINEAR Building.

Disabled: Loads and profiles on rooms in the model are ignored during building detection and must be created manually in LINEAR Building if the dynamic cooling load of the building is to be calculated.

Filter: Module/Type; Search

Drop-down lists for limiting the parameters by module and type. The drop-down list for selecting the module contains modules for which there are available parameters. The type drop-down list also only contains types with available parameters.

You can further restrict the selection in the Search text field; the function searches through parameter names and designations.

Parameter Table

Table Column Description

Name

The description of the parameter.

Parameter

The internal parameter identification.

Module

LINEAR Building-module in which the parameter is stored. Parameters that are used in several modules are stored in the general module.

Object

The element type to which the parameter is linked.

Option

Clicking on opens a context menu with options for handling the parameter during building detection, an update or synchronization:

No Changes: The parameter remains unchanged during an update, building detection, or synchronization.

Import Only: The parameter is overwritten with the corresponding value from the connected CAD during an update, building detection, or synchronization.

Note: For the following parameters, LINEAR Building customized values are overwritten with the values from the connected CAD.
  • LIN_BA_U_VALUE
  • LIN_BA_MECHANICAL_SUPPLY_AIR_TEMPERATURE_HEATING
  • LIN_BA_MECHANICAL_SUPPLY_AIR_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_MECHANICAL_EXTRACT_AIR_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_INFILTRATION_SUPPLY_AIR_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_DESIGN_INFILTRATION_SUPPLY_AIR_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_TRANSFERRED_SUPPLY_AIR_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_OUTDOOR_AIR_OUTLET_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_MINIMUM_AIR_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_MINIMUM_AIR_CHANGE_RATE
  • LIN_BA_MINIMUM_AIR_SPECIFIC_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_DESIGN_INFILTRATION_SUPPLY_AIR_TEMPERATURE
  • LIN_BA_TECHNICAL_REQUIRED_AIR_FLOWRATE
  • LIN_BA_OUTDOOR_AIR_LARGE_OPENINGS
  • LIN_BA_THERMAL_BRIDGE_CORRECTION
  • LIN_NUMBER_OF_PERSONS
  • LIN_BA_DESIGN_HEATING_LOAD_DENSITY
  • LIN_BA_DESIGN_COOLING_LOAD_DENSITY
  • LIN_BA_NET_AREA
  • LIN_BA_ROOM_TYPE
  • LIN_BA_VENTILATION_SYSTEM

Export Only: The parameter is transferred to the connected CAD during an update or when the building is imported or synchronized.

Import/Export: The program keeps the value of the respective parameter synchronized between LINEAR Building and the connected CAD by transferring changed values to the respective counterpart when updating. If the parameter has been changed both in LINEAR Building and in the connected CAD, the value from LINEAR Building is adopted.

If parameters that are dependent on each other for calculation purposes are configured in such a way that would result in conflicts during synchronization, an error symbol is displayed in the last column. You can find more information in the tooltip of the error symbol.

Note: The display of values depends in part on the selected synchronization setting.
Table 1. Display of Values in Input Fields
Display Meaning
Normal The displayed value corresponds to the standard value or the calculated value and, if applicable, does not deviate from the value in the CAD program or the Excel Room Data Sheet.
