Valves

Explains the concept of valves in pipe network calculation for heating, cooling and potable water.

In the Valves dialog, select the valves to be used in the pipe network calculation. Data from different manufacturers is available as well as the valves created by the user in the Curve data dialog. Assignment of valve data is done via global preselection or by explicitly assigning valve data to individual components in the drawing.

Valves added to the valve preselection (Valves dialog) are saved in the project including their technical data until they are removed from the preselection. Once a valve is removed from preselection it can no longer be used for calculation.

Install an appropriate data set to use the data from manufacturer systems. Manufacturer data sets can be downloaded via the LINEAR Installation Center.

If in Valve preselection you have selected more than one valve for the same valve type, the most suitable valve will be calculated and automatically inserted. In Local assignment you may select and assign valves that deviate from those selected in Global preselection.

Valves in Heating Pipe Network Calculation

Pipe network calculation entails the hydraulic balancing of the network. After dimensioning the pipes, valves are throttled to achieve identical pressure loss for all flow paths when viewed from the pump.

For cases where thermostatic valves, radiator lockshield valves or one-pipe radiator valves are not constructed separately, they will automatically be assigned as integrated components for radiators. All other valve types like regulating valves, differential pressure closed-loop controller, flow regulators, three-way valves and fixed resistors are automatically assigned to their corresponding components.

Valves in Potable Water Pipe Network Calculation

Potable water- and circulating pipe systems require hydraulic and thermal balancing to ensure sufficient flow and necessary water temperatures in every pipe of all pipe runs. Regulating valves are used to that end.
