About the Revit MEP Import

Explains the concept of importing pipe and duct networks or electrical wire trays designed in Revit into the LINEAR Design 3D Pipe&Power module.

The Revit MEP Import allows you to import pipe and duct networks or electrical wire trays designed in Revit into the AutoCAD module LINEAR Design 3D Pipe&Power. To generate such networks in Design 3D Pipe&Power, the required data of MEP components and pipe or duct network topologies, or electrical wire trays must be exported to a d3d file in Revit and then imported into Design 3D Pipe&Power. Ideally, the Revit model should also have been constructed with LINEAR Solutions so that the transfer of the data can be carried out as error-free as possible.

The function allows you to import AutoCAD models into AutoCAD for further detailing without having to recreate the network manually. After generating the network, you can perform detailed construction design planning using the tools for planning the components to be manufactured available in AutoCAD.

After selecting the d3d file to import, you can specify which pipe, duct or electrical cable tray sets to use for the network. The networks are then generated automatically. In the process, all connections of components that are part of a pipe network are replaced by a universal component connection in order to implement the connection to the pipes. After generation, you can correct the component connections of individual or all components of a type.

Due to the differences in modeling between Revit and AutoCAD, it may happen that networks cannot be imported into AutoCAD without errors and manual rework might be required. If pipes cannot be generated, their location in the drawing is represented by magenta colored pipes and a corresponding error message is passed as a report. Also, components used in Revit that are not included in the material sets used in AutoCAD cause that parts of the network cannot be generated if no alternative was found in the selected set. All errors occurring during the generation of the networks as well as other messages are displayed in the reports after the import and can be processed step by step to obtain a complete network that can be calculated. Subsequently, detailed construction design planning can be carried out using the tools available in the LINEAR Design 3D Pipe&Power.
