Perform Excel Export and Import of Component Lists

Shows step-by-step how to export component lists to Microsoft Excel, edit them in Excel and then import them again.

Before you begin

You want to export component lists, for example, to create new parameters for the components or assign values to parameters in Microsoft Excel. Then you want to import the component lists again to transfer the new and changed data to the components.

Requirement:

The components of the component list to be exported are located in your drawing and are visible in the current view.

Navigate to:

Labeling and Output tabExportComponent lists ...

or

Labeling and Output tabLabel drawingComponent lists ...

Dialog Component lists LINEAR AutoCAD

Procedure

  1. In the Component types area, expand the component type groups whose components you want to export.
  2. Select the checkbox of the component types whose component you want to export.
All parameters of the component types are displayed in the right-hand window, categorized according to their origin.
Note: Select the checkbox only shared parameters to only display parameters that are present in all enabled component types.
  3. In the right window, select the parameters to be exported.
In the lower window of the dialog, a component list appears with all components of the component types and the values of the selected parameters.
  4. Click Export ....
  5. Enter a custom file name and confirm with Save.
    The following dialog opens:

  6. Confirm with Yes, add “Data exchange ID”.
The component list with its parts and parameters is opened in Microsoft Excel.
    Important:

Component lists that were exported in versions older than LINEAR Solutions 24.1 have a different structure and cannot be imported in this form. To enable an import, replace the names of the parameters in the first row of the Excel table with the parameter IDs (Parameter name for label). All the following rows contain the parameter values and do not need to be adjusted.

  7. Edit the component list as desired and save the file in Excel format.
    Tip:

You can add user defined parameters in Excel by adding new columns. Enter the desired name of the new parameter in the first row of a new column. The parameter values must start in the second row. Make sure that there is no empty column within the table, otherwise columns with content behind the empty column will not be re-imported. During import, these new parameters are transferred to the components with their values.

  8. In the Component list dialog, click Import ..., select the edited *.xlsx file and click Open.
The edited component list is imported. If you have created new parameters, a query appears asking whether you want to create the new parameters.
  9. If necessary, confirm the message with Yes, create parameter and select the Do not ask again for this parameter checkbox.
The added parameters can be found in the Parameters section under the Product information.

Results
