Transferring Room Data to an Excel Room Data Sheet

Shows step by step how to transfer room data to a new Excel room data sheet.

Before you begin

You want to transfer specific room data from LINEAR Building to a newly created Excel room data sheet.

Tip: If this is a project in which the building has already been imported from an Excel room data sheet, or in which room data has already been transferred to an Excel room data sheet and these Excel room data sheets are to be used, follow the steps in the task for synchronization between LINEAR Building and a linked room data sheet.

Requirements

  • The Excel file to which the space data is to be transferred has already been created.
  • This Excel file is not open in any other program.
Note: This task describes the data transfer using an empty Excel file. Alternatively, you can already name the columns in the Excel file to which the room parameter values will be transferred. After selecting such an Excel room data sheet, the column names from the room data sheet are transferred to the column Excel Column in the synchronization dialog.

If necessary, you can define additional columns in the synchronization dialog by adding new rows, naming the Excel column, and assigning the desired room parameter.

Navigate to

LINEAR BuildingModule SelectionToolbar Synchronize Excel Room Data Sheet

Dialog "Excel Room Data Sheet Synchronization” in LINEAR Building

Procedure

  1. Click on and select the desired Excel file.
The Excel room data sheet, into which the room data is transferred, is selected.
“Synchronize Excel Room Data Sheet” dialog with selected Excel file
  2. If necessary, adjust the Worksheet to which the data is transferred.
  3. Click in the table and enter the name of the Excel Column in the room data sheet where the storey names are listed in the newly added row.
  4. In the Room Parameters field, click and select the space parameter Storey Name from the context menu that appears under General.
  5. Create another row with the name for the Excel Column of room names by clicking in a free row or pressing F5, and select the space parameter Room Name under General.
  6. Add additional rows for all room parameters to be transferred, name each Excel Column, and assign the corresponding room parameters.
  7. Select from the dropdown list Synchronization Configuration the entry Default Synchronization Setting - Export Only.
Note: Changing the Synchronization Configuration changes the synchronization setting in the section Synchronization of the Configuration. This change will not be reversed even if the data transfer is canceled. Remember to reset your desired synchronization settings in the Configuration afterwards, if necessary.
  8. Click on Synchronize.
    The following note appears.
Note on the missing ID column when transferring room data to an Excel room data sheet
  9. Select No, Assign ID Column so that future synchronizations between the Excel room data sheet and LINEAR Building can be carried out successfully even if storey and/or room names have been changed.
  10. Select the entry <Append to End> for the ID Column and click again on Synchronize.
Attention: To avoid data loss, ensure that you do not specify a column with room data sheet data for the ID Column.
    The following note appears.

  11. Select Transfer building structure from building to Excel room data sheet.
