About Transferring Space Data to an Excel Room Data Sheet

Explains the concept of transferring space data to a room data sheet in Excel format.

You can transfer the room data available in LINEAR Building to a room data sheet in Excel format. It does not matter if it is a project in which the building detection was carried out from an Excel room data sheet, the building structure was created in LINEAR Building, or the building detection (import) was carried out from a CAD program. The only difference is that for projects based on the import of an Excel room data sheet, a linked Excel room data sheet already exists. This means that no new Excel file needs to be created for the transfer, and the columns of the Excel room data sheet to which room parameters were already assigned during the import are usually already mapped to the corresponding room parameters during synchronization.

When transferring room data without prior import from an Excel room data sheet, you can use both empty and prepared Excel files. To prepare an Excel file, you can enter column headers for the room data to be transferred into the file. When using empty Excel files, create the columns and name them by adding additional rows in the synchronization dialog. The corresponding room parameters are assigned in the individual rows so that the Excel columns are filled with the values of the room parameters. A combination of both is also possible.

The Excel columns for storey and room names are always required for transfer to an Excel room data sheet. These columns are assigned to the corresponding room parameters Room Name and Storey Name in the synchronization dialog. This ensures that the values of these room parameters are transferred to the Excel columns, thereby guaranteeing that each room in the room data sheet can be clearly identified. There are no restrictions for naming the Excel columns. This means that Storey Name or Room Name can also be used, for example.

To ensure that rooms can be clearly identified for future synchronizations even if room names change, an additional ID Column should be defined and transferred.
