Creating 2D Images (Flatshots) of Layouts as New Drawings

Shows step by step how to create 2D images (flatshots) of layouts as new drawings.

Before you begin

You want to create a 2D image (flatshot) from simple lines from a layout as a new drawing.

Requirement:

The layout from which you want to create a 2D image (flatshot) as a new drawing is open.

Note: Since creating images can take a long time for very large drawings with many objects, it is recommended that you limit 2D image creation to a section of the drawing if necessary. Canceling the image creation is possible at any time using ESC.

Navigate to

“Labeling and Output” TabExportFlatshot

Procedure

  1. If necessary, open the Flatshot area.

  2. Select the Create new DWG checkbox.
  3. Under Output Elements, select whether only visible elements, only hidden elements, or both should be included when creating the image.
  4. Optional: Use the first drop-down list under Hidden Lines to set the desired line style and the second drop-down list to set the desired line weight for the lines in the 2D image.
  5. Optional: Click on the color field to adjust the color for the hidden lines in the Select Color dialog.
  6. Optional: Adjust the Line Type Factor (additional) to specify the rendering of hidden lines in dashed line styles in the 2D representation.
Tip: Multiple decimal places are possible.
  7. Click Flatshot Layout.
If the layout contains viewports with shaded or rendered views, the following query opens:
  8. Click
    • Yes for a flatshot based on all viewports.
    • No for a flatshot in which only 2D images of the viewports with views in wireframe modes are generated.
    The Save as dialog opens.
  9. Save the new drawing.
The 2D image of the layout has been created as a new drawing according to the option selected in the previous query.

Results

You have created a 2D image (flatshot) from simple lines of an existing layout as a new drawing.

What to do next

Open the newly created drawing to see the result of the flatshot creation.
Tip: If the elements of the drawing are not immediately visible, enter the Zoom Extents command in the command line and confirm your entry. Alternatively, you can double-click with the mouse wheel to execute the command.
