Heat Load Calculation Based on EN 12831-1 (2017)

Explains the concept of heat load calculation based on EN 12831-1 (2017).

The heat load calculation provides the energy requirement for heating a building to the specified target temperatures, taking into account the calculation method selected in each case. Heat generators and heat transfer systems such as radiators or panel heating/cooling systems are then designed on the basis of the determined energy demand.

The following calculation method are based on the heat load calculation according to EN 12831-1 (2017):

Calculation Method Scope of application
Europe: EN 12831-1 (2017) Standard heat load according to the detailed calculation method according to EN 12831-1 from 2017 without national adjustments.
Germany: DIN/TS EN 12831-1 (2020) Standard heat load according to the detailed calculation method according to EN 12831-1 from 2017 in connection with the German standard DIN/TS 12831-1 (2020).
Poland: PN-EN 12831-1 (2017) Standard heat load according to the detailed calculation method according to EN 12831-1 from 2017 with relation to official Polish weather data.
Belgium: NBN 12831-1 ANB (2020) Standard heat load according to the detailed calculation method of EN-12831-1 from 2017 in connection with the Belgian supplement NBN 12831-1 ANB (2020).
Denmark: DS 418 (2020) Standard heat load according to the detailed calculation method according to EN 12831-1 from 2017 with the Danish supplement DS 418 (2020).
