Improve the Performance in Building Detection

Get information on possible approaches you can take to improve performance in building detection.

The duration of the building detection depends significantly on the complexity of the respective model and can take between a few seconds and several minutes. If the detection takes a disproportionate amount of time, you can try to reduce the amount of data and model complexity with the following measures to speed up the process.

Increase of general performance

  • Unload all linked submodules that are not necessary e.g. thermally decoupled building parts, system equipment, environment, etc.).

  • Remove unused and temporary project components (e.g. loaded families, components etc.) by selecting the Purge unused setting on the Manage tab of the ribbon.

Improvement of detection speed

  • Check interior pillars in your model for room bounding properties. If they are not absolutely necessary (i.e. If the influence on the covered surface is not significant), uncheck the Room Bounding option under Constraints in the component's Properties.

  • Avoid excessive use of partitioning lines for MEP spaces near walls, because when using partitioning lines for MEP spaces, the room boundaries lose the information about the room bounding component. This can considerably increase the duration of the building detection and lead to components not being detected correctly.

If you use partitioning lines for MEP spaces to determine net areas, use Area plans instead.

  • For very large projects, try to identify a suitable place where you can split the model and then look at the project area by area.
